Rental service

Save time and money

Renting clothes locally lets you save time packing and means you don’t have to carry baggage with you on your trip. It also saves you time washing and putting away clothes after you get home.We calculate that our two services combined will save you a total 26 hours of work: our itinerary service will save you an estimated 21 hours a week spent on planning and research, and our clothing rental service will save you 1-2 hours packing, 2 hours tending to baggage during your trip, and 2 hours washing and putting away clothes when you get home. That 26 hours equal to a monetary value of USD702 (based on the OECD average annual income of USD51,607).

Time is money

Reduce your carbon footprint while traveling lighter

CO2 emissions

Source: International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO; European Chemical Transport Association, ECTA; Ministry of the Environment, Japan

By not checking baggage, you can reduce your CO2 emissions by 74.5 kg for each leg of your trip to Japan. That’s 21 times the C02 emissions saved by using solar panels for one day, and 57 times the daily emissions saved by using an electric car.

By not bringing 20 kg of checked baggage, you can reduce your trip’s total CO2 emissions by about 149 kg (average based on one round-trip between Tokyo and 19 major countries). That’s 186 times the annual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from planting a single tree.

This 149 kg reduction in CO2 emissions vastly exceeds the impact of, for example, producing zero food waste or avoiding plastic bags for a whole year.

Protect wildlife with a new style of travel

Every year, more and more species come under threat from climate change. According to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), the number of endangered species where climate change is a contributing factor passed 4,000 in 2020.

Here are just a few of the 4,000 animal species affected by climate change.

POLAR BEAR

SNOW LEOPARD

GIANT PANDA

TIGER

GREEN SEA TURTLE

AFRICAN ELEPHANT

Support us in making travel accessible to all

By eliminating the need for heavy suitcases and baggage, we want to make travel easier for everyone, including the elderly, the disabled, and families with young children.

The number of travelers in Japan aged 70 and up is falling sharply: in 2019, the average number of domestic trips made by this demographic fell by 34% and international trips by 72%. Overseas family travel with infants and toddlers fell by 27%. This is despite the fact that a survey conducted by Sony Life in September 2021 found that travel ranked No.1 (44.6%) as the preferred pastime of adults aged 50-79.

These trends look set to continue worldwide. We need an easier way to travel that caters to the growing elderly population while significantly reducing our carbon footprint.

Comparison to similar services

Japan already has a service called Japan Hands-free Travel which transports travelers' baggage from the airport to their accommodations after they arrive in the country. This service spares travelers the hard work of carrying their baggage.

However, this service is limited to accommodations located in a same-day delivery zone. And travelers still have to check their baggage on board, hiking up CO2 emissions.

And it’s not a clothing rental service, so you still have to pack before departure and wash and put away your clothes when you get home.

Despite these disadvantages, the Japan Tourism Agency estimates that around 480,000 people use this service. We hope that many of these travelers will switch to our service to enjoy its many benefits.

Price comparison with other rental services

The average rental price for ski wear in Japan is USD33 per day, or USD1,201 if you rent 6 pieces per day for 6 days.

Typical mountaineering wears rental costs USD545 for six pieces per day for six days.

If you compare our price with other rental clothing services, you will understand the affordability of our worth, including the concierge fee and Furoshiki (wrapping clothes).

Our rental price is including the concierge fee and Furoshiki (wrapping clothes).

Nothing beats simple

3 public authorities highly valued our company

Since we established our company, our business plan has been highly evaluated, and we have received subsidies from two public institutions – the Japanese government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. In addition, Shinjuku Ward approved using shared offices.

It is extremely rare for a business to be simultaneously assessed and recognized by three major public institutions.

Now you know about us. The next step is to use us.

Ninja Kotan makes travel easier. You can save time and money, reduce your carbon footprint, and support our mission to make travel more accessible to everyone.

Why not try a new way of traveling?

Planning a trip is one of the biggest stresses in life

According to a Hotels.com survey, 42% of millennial travelers identified “travel planning” as one of their biggest stresses.

More than one in eight travelers surveyed spend 15 hours or more researching travel plans. 38% would be willing to pay a friend or travel agent up to USD134 to research them, and 40% would pay more for the trip overall to avoid having to plan it.
